New Software Released (Version 4)
By Admin 2013-07-13
After 6 months of development, a major software upgrade has been released for the Marlowe Online Server WEB Interface.
Version 4 was designed to tackle four major aspects of the software, these are:
Usability - the ease of use
Flexibility - allowing the system to be completely customised to requirements
Security - stopping data being taken, stopping data being lost, and giving more precision exact security permissions
Interactivity - allowing users (and guests) to interact with the system rather than just viewing it
These aspects (whilst entirely separate) are also closely bound together to create a Usable Flexible Secure Interactive system - and this is what version 4 is.
XCSV was a major part of version 4.
Previously XCSV was a tool for viewing and filtering data. It allowed completely customised CSV files to be defined clearly with multiple powerful attributes assigned to each column. It also had system and custom views of the data.
Now XCSV is the control structure for interactive CSV file manipulation.
XCSV allows a user to have limited access rights to an XCSV file. The ability to update specific fields in only rows they have been granted access to, and to add / delete their records (if permitted to do so).
XCSV can now relate to other XCSV files, allowing for cross CSV file references. A selected option in a field of one table may refer to any number of rows in another CSV file.
XCSV offers an editor for its CSV file to edit each row in an easy to use form.
XCSV has had several new column types added to allow for these features.
The user interface has been updated to make use of browser input types, such as a colour picker. This is part of the move toward adopting standards.
The admin page has been updated with a refurbished file manager, offering a filtering by type feature.
One of the new XCSV column types is 'Options', this can auto generate a list of the different values used in a CSV column, and have more added as required. This has been enhanced further to include extra content for each option. When this option is selected the extra content can optionally be displayed in a control on the page.
The panel scheduler has been enhanced to include 'page count' as one of its criteria. This allows an item to be displayed only when a user has made a set number of visits to the site.
